Congratulations to James, who passed the State of Alaska EMT I course last year and is the youngest person in the State of Alaska to have passed this test. Although he cannot officially become an EMT until he is 18 years of age, his official status due to the limitations of his age is that he is an ETT (emergency trauma technician). He has been involved with the Wrangell Volunteer Fire Department for several years but has become more involved since he turned 16 years of age and became eligible to be a Junior Fire Fighter.
The Wrangell Volunteer Fire Department (WVFD) has a wonderful program called “Junior Fire Fighters”. The members of this organization go on actual Fire Calls as well as EMS (ambulance) calls. I have been on the WVFD for many years and James’ has been attending meetings and going on calls with me for several years. He is very motivated with his WVFD participation. He attends training at the Fire Hall every other day for 2 hours or more. Additionally, he attends on-going training at the Fire Hall three nights a month. Submitted by James Leslie Sr.
